Mobile Game Development
Featuring the top 10 common fears. This mobile app will help guide children with their fears in a kid-friendly app that parents can monitor. It would be a therapeutic device that can be opened at any time when a stressor occurs. This project explores interactive game design as well as illustration, UX/UI, in-depth research, and exploration into augmented reality advertising. My project was chosen as the opening display for the Senior Show at George Mason University 2019.
UX & UI Component
Objective
For my senior design project, I was given the task to complete a design campaign that centered around a UX-based project, that included branding, as well as other graphic design elements. We had full freedom to choose what problem to tackle, but was required to display our project to a live audience for the George Mason University Senior Design Show.
Problem
Looking at the current trends I found that there is a lack of market for apps that cater to children and parents. Most are just one-sided apps that only entertain the children.
Goal
Foebia is a children's and parent mobile app that will help educate kids and parents to better understand phobias while fostering communication. Engaging in a fun and open communication for both parent and child.
Graphic Design Component
Branding
Initial rough vectors of Foebia brand. I chose to concentrate on three designs. Located on the right side. I wanted a playful icon that would appeal to the younger audience. Colors convey the feeling of the brand, and I chose to do gradient blues and purples. Researching color choices that would calm anxiety, these colors convey a peaceful mood to the app.
Game Development
Conclusion & User Testing
Although the app was finished, and user testing was implemented. Feedback made me realized that an additional area of the app was needed to address anxiety, beyond the game component. After looking at different sources of relaxation, I decided to include a relaxation screen that included previous messages from the parents that encourage the child during their moment of anxiety.
